Measles Vaccines
Measles: What You Need to Know
Measles is a highly contagious viral illness that spreads through the air when an infected person coughs, sneezes, breathes, or talks — and the virus can linger in the air for up to two hours after an infected person has left a room. Symptoms typically appear 7 to 21 days after exposure and can include high fever, cough, runny nose, and a full-body rash.
The Good News: The Vaccine Works
The MMR (Measles, Mumps & Rubella) vaccine is safe, proven, and highly effective. One dose is 93% effective at preventing measles, and two doses are 97% effective.
Most children receive the MMR vaccine at two ages:
- First dose: 12–15 months
- Second dose: 4–6 years
Teens and adults who have never been vaccinated should also receive two doses, at least 28 days apart.
Super Shot offers the MMR vaccine for children and adults of all ages.
